Demolition Work Safety Notes

Before Commencing Demolition Work:

Ensure:
   Development approval has been granted.
   Approval has been granted from the owner to proceed.
   Building owner has provided a building report of any contained asbestos materials
Review:
   Existing plans (if available) to identify structural systems. If plans are not available consult with a structural engineer.
   Identify the plant and equipment to be used.
Identify:
   Safe means of access and egress to the site and for adjoining buildings and areas such as common use parks.
   Any possible environmental impacts from the demolition.

Demolition Work General Safety

Existing Services:
    All existing services must be identified, located and isolated by qualified trades persons prior to any work starting.
   Tradespersons must sign off that the work has been completed.
Floor Loading:
   Will be reviewed continuously to ensure that loads on the floors and walls will not be exceeded. (Example By using heavy plant on floors that have been undermined.)
Electrical:
   Identify and implement electrical safety system for the site.
(i.e. Position of temporary electrical boxes and leads.)
Lighting:
   Temporary lighting will be supplied and maintained that is adequate for the task.

  • Warning signs will be erected and checked each day.
          Example “Warning Demolition Work in Progress”.
  • Traffic control, road closures and pedestrian controls will be provided as identified and where required.
  • Perimeter hoarding fencing will be installed as required.
  • Gates will be locked at completion of the work day.
