Carpet Laying Safety Notes:

Airing the rooms after carpet has been laid is recommended. Any volatile organic compounds caught in the carpet during manufacture will dissipate within a few days.
Carpet laying can be hard on both your knees and your back. Correct manual handling and frequent stretching should be observed.

Existing damage:
Identify and document any damage to the building or contents to prevent future conflict. Digital cameras are ideal for this task.

Furniture:
If removal is included in the job it should be inspected for damage and suitability for removal.
Example: Large items such as pianos and wall units may need to be move by specialists or by the building owner.

Carpet seams
Decide on the best placement of seams:
Underlay should be laid so that its seams will be running perpendicular. (at an angle of 90°) to the carpet seams.
Locate seams in less noticeable or out of high traffic areas. Example Seams should NOT be in door ways along walking path.
Locate seams under furniture where possible.

Prepare floors:
Sweep and or vacuum the floor to ensure that nothing will be left under the new carpet.
Check the floor for damage. Floors must be in a reasonable condition and undamaged as these imperfections will show up later.
On timber floors secure any loose floorboards.
