The Trucks- Loading and Unloading Work Method Statement (WMS) is ready to use and is not a blank template. Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand. It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall WHS System.

This SWMS covers loading via forklift onto transport vehicles. This does not include transfer of bulk goods (such as fuel) in tankers.

• Vehicle accident

Planning: (extract only)

• Inspect intended loading area. Ensure:
  • No overhead services/power lines
  • Suitable ground surface/condition (soil condition, bridges, excavations, embankments, slopes, holes, drop-offs, pits, trees/root systems).
• Ensure vehicle suitable for load. Check
  • Road worthy
  • Sufficient space for load
  • Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM), tyre and load capacity will not be exceeded
  • Correct design for type of load (long loads, correct load distribution)
• Where required provide adequate traffic management. Include:
  • Witches hats/barricades/line markings
  • Caution signs/convex mirrors/alarms etc
  • Exclusion zone for pedestrians
  • Driver waiting area (visible to forklift operator)
