The Road Works – Site Preparation Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive 20 page procedure. Ensure Standard work plans are available for site. Include:

- Characteristics of work site
- Location maps – to scale - showing topography/ layout – including existing and proposed buildings, waterways, parks, existing and proposed tracks etc
- Environmental impacts and control measures (such as soil erosion, sediment control, storm water permitting, flora and fauna disruption, noise, oil spills, sensitive areas etc)
- Environmental monitoring, auditing and reporting
- Occupational Health and Safety information (hazard identifications and risk controls, SWMS, Permit for working in confined spaces, Hot Works etc)
Ensure all permits / licenses are obtained as required.
Ensure detailed instructions provided. Example:
- Top soil depth for stripping
- Heights of stockpiled soil (eg: not exceeding 1.5m)
- Location of stockpiled soil
- Dust control measures
- Drainage requirements
- Drill pad target locations, construction method and materials for pad and exact measurements (length/width)
- Extent of clearing
- Size, location of tracks/roads
- Working hours /duration of works
