The Shade Sail Installation Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive document outlining the general safety issues associated with installation of shade sails in outdoor locations. This SWMS includes installation works at existing domestic dwellings, schools and construction sites. This SWMS does not cover the use of a power driven Post Hole Digger.

This SWMS is ready to use and is not a blank template. Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand. It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall WHS System.
For existing premises, assess:
- Presence of potentially aggressive persons or dangerous animals
- Presence of asbestos in relevant roof or wall section
- Presence of concrete (silica dust) if drilling through cement is required
- Space to conduct work and access/egress points
- Disposal requirements for materials.
Schools – Liaison with School management to determine if “Working With Children Check” documentation is required for workers and/or supervision requirements to meet Child Protection Policies and Procedures at the school. Legislative requirements vary between States and schools must have systems in place to cover contract workers whilst on site.
Assess the exposure of workers to noise, including the frequency of exposure to noise levels that exceed the legislated Exposure Standard while working in construction zones, and/or using powered hand tools and determine required controls such as Audiometric Testing and PPE. Refer to Noise Control SWMS for detailed information regarding the prevention of hearing loss and legislative requirements.
