General Powder Coating Safety Information:

The Powder Coating Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive 8 page procedure outlining the safety steps for Powder coating. This SWMS covers electrostatic spray-painting/powder coating. This does not cover fluidized beds or flame spray.

The Powder Coating procedure is ready to use and is not a blank template. Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand.

It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall OHS System. The Powder Coating procedure can be used as part of your OHS inductions, for Tool box talks or tender applications.

Pre Operational Inspection

Booth and components - Ensure :

• No ignition sources within 6 m.
• No smoking (signs are in place).
• All unnecessary items removed from booth.
• Dust has not accumulated around booth (could be a sign of insufficient extraction).
• Extraction is sufficient.
• Interlock system (if installed) is functional.
• Equipment, stitches and light fittings are clean.
• Collection units working and recycled filtered air is clean.
• All components are earthed (including manually operated guns) and all cables are intact.
• Explosion relief valves functional - not blocked.
• Filters replaced/cleaned as required.
• System is air - tight (use bright light with parallel beam to determine if dust is escaping from duct work/collection unit).
• Compliance plate attached and legible.
• Fire protection equipment accessible and functional.
