The Manual Handling-lifting Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive 11 page procedure. Manual handling includes all physical activity. Manual handling tasks only present a risk when they are considered hazardous. Hazardous manual tasks can lead to injuries that are called “Musculoskeletal Injuries” or MSD’s.

This SWMS covers general aspects associated with hazardous manual handling tasks.  The SWMS covers the requirement to identify, assess and control manual handling risks in relation to lifting tasks across numerous industries including construction, manufacturing, hospitality etc. This does not provide specific risk controls in relation to people-handling in health care settings.

The Manual Handling-lifting Work Method Statement (WMS) is ready to use and is not a blank template. Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand. It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall OHS System.

The Manual Handling-lifting Work Method Statement can be used as part of your OHS inductions, for Tool box talks or tender applications.
