The Welding- Mig/Maw Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a
comprehensive 13 page procedure. This SWMS covers MIG (Metal Inert Gas)
or GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) welding processes.
Common shielding gases (inert) include Argon and in some cases helium which are used for aluminum and non-ferrous materials. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is also commonly used for welding steel. These gases can displace oxygen in the worker's breathing zone and lead to injury and in extreme cases – fatality. It is vital that sufficient ventilation is provided (particularly as most MIG welding occurs indoors to ensure shielding gas function) not just for controlling inert gas dangers, but also for contaminants that may be present in the welding plume The Welding- Mig/Maw procedure is ready to use and is not a blank template. Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand. It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall OHS System. The Welding- Mig/Maw Work Method Statement can be used as part of your OHS inductions, for Tool box talks or tender applications. The Welding- Mig/Maw Work Method Statement includes:
