Electrical Fit-off Information:

The Electrical Fit-off Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive 14 page procedure. This SWMS involves electrical fit-off conducted in new dwellings under construction. This does NOT involve working with live high voltage assets.

The Electrical Fit-off Work Method Statement (WMS) is ready to use and is not a blank template. Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand. It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall OHS System.

The Electrical Fit-off Work Method Statement can be used as part of your OHS inductions, for Tool box talks or tender applications.

Pre-operational Inspection:

Inspect all equipment before use. Examples:

Power tools:

• Tools are visually inspected for any damage
• Vents; filters etc clear and free of dust/debris
• Outside casing not damaged
• Fans and cooling devices functional
• No loose or missing screws, nuts, bolts
• Guards prevent access to danger areas
• Triggers do not stick or are faulty
• Battery charging areas well ventilated
• Batteries fully charged
• Emergency stops and safety devices tested and functional

Electrical:

• RCDs installed
• Ensure leads/plugs are not damaged
• Use pendants, lead-stands or insulated cable hangers for leads
• Ensure all equipment and leads are tested and tagged as required for use.
• Do not use electrical equipment in wet or damp areas or in inclement weather.

PPE:

• Suitable for task
• Clean, undamaged and maintained.

If equipment is damaged, do not use. Take out of service, apply Lock-out/tag-out, (LOTO) procedures and inform supervisor immediately.
