General Gantry Crane Safety Information:
Gantry Cranes have inherent dangers and this four page Safe Work Procedure or Work Method Statement is a vital part of a safe work system.
General Use
- Personnel are and will remain clear of the loads at all times.
- The load will not be suspended over personnel at any time.
- Under no circumstances may anyone ride the hook or load. Injuries have occurred under these circumstances.
When Using Gantry Cranes Always
Ensure that :
- The rated load capacity of the crane, hoist, chain, cable, slings, or other components WILL NOT be exceeded.
- The hoist rope is not wrapped around the load.
- Slings, load chains and other lifting devices are securely seated on the hook. (No twist that could cause the load to swing.)
- The hoist is located directly above the load to be lifted.
- The load is properly secured and balanced. This can be checked as the load is lifted slightly. Reposition the sling if required.
