Glass Cutting on site Information:
The Glass Cutting on site Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive 11 page procedure. This SWMS covers general safety issues associated with cutting glass to size on site.
The Glass Cutting on site procedure is ready to use and is not a blank template. Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand. It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall OHS System.

Pre-operational Inspection:
Inspect equipment:
Grinders. Ensure:
- Correct size for job
- Correct wheel for glass
- Adequately guarded (guard covers half of disc between operator and disc)
- Fitted with "dead-man" switch (auto cut-off)
- No defect/damage to wheel (cracks or chips)
- Wheel clamped between 2 cheeks of equal diameter
- Blotters (soft paper discs) placed on each side of wheel)
- Correct flange and locking nuts for type of disc
Transport and Storage of Glass equipment:
- Sheets are stored at 90 degree angle on an A-frame
- Chocked with hardwood timber where required
- Load does not exceed SWL of A-frame
- Vacuum lifters /crane etc are:
- Suitable SWL
- Serviced and Maintained as required
- Fully functional, clean and undamaged
Ensure all electrical leads and equipment are:
- Undamaged (inspect entire length of lead and plug)
- Tested and Tagged
- Safety switches (RCD's) used
If any equipment is damaged or unsuitable for the task do not use. Take out of service immediately and apply LOTE (Lock-Out / Tag-Out) procedures.
