Lawn Edger Information:
The Lawn Edger Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive 10 page procedure. This SWMS covers general safety aspects associated with the use of an electric or fuel operated Lawn-edger.
The Lawn Edger Work Method Statement (WMS) is ready to use and is not a blank template. Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand. It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall OHS System.
The Lawn Edger Work Method Statement can be used as part of your OHS inductions, for Tool box talks or tender applications.
Operation:
Operate as per manufacturers' instructions. Example:
- Adjust blade depth to minimum required for job.
- Place unit on firm ground, clear of obstacles.
- Adjust handles to comfortable position
- Ensure all body parts clear of cutting head
- Establish firm footing and balance
- Stand to left side of main handle
- Line up with pavers (or area as needed)
- Tilt handle down to raise blade
- Turn on and allow blade to spin
- Without moving forward, place blade onto surface by slowly lowering into position
- Move forward slowly
- Forward direction only
Ensure other persons remain at least 5m from operator. Immediately shut off if approached.
Hold unit with two hands, move slowly during first pass, faster pace can be used for 2nd/3rd runs as required.
Work moving away from solid objects such as walls, steps etc. These areas may need to be done by hand
Check cutting head is secure and blades are not damaged at regular intervals. Periodically check that all fixings are tight and have not become loose from vibration
Remain alert, be cautious of hidden obstacles.
