General Sharps Disposal Safety Information:
The Sharps Disposal Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive 4 page procedure outlining the steps for the safe disposal of sharps.
Sharps can include hypodermic and suture needles, intravenous blood collection devices, phlebotomy devices and scalpels. Most sharps injuries occur when disposing sharps (unsuitable container design/location, recapping before disposal, and over filling disposal containers).
The Sharps Disposal procedure is ready to use and is not a blank template. Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand. It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall OHS System.
The Sharps Disposal procedure can be used as part of your OHS inductions, for Tool box talks or tender applications.
