Treated Pine Information:
The Treated Pine Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive 12 page procedure outlining the safety steps for working with preservative treated timbers (tasks such as handling, drilling, cutting etc) and does not include exposures to persons using finished products or the preservative manufacturing process. There are three types of preservatives used to treat timber – Oil borne (Creosote, PEC), Water borne – Copper Chrome Arsenic (CCA) and Light Organic Solvent Preservative – LOSP (TBTN, Copper Cu naphthenate). CCA (green coloured) is most common. Main exposure routes include absorption through skin/eyes, inhalation (nose, respiratory tract) and ingestion. Exposure can cause skin/respiratory tract irritation, nerve damage, and cancers of nasal and respiratory tract, lung and skin.
The Treated Pine procedure is ready to use and is not a blank template. Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand. It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall OHS System.
The Treated Pine procedure can be used as part of your OHS inductions, for Tool box talks or tender applications.
