Window Installation Information:

The Window Installation Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive 16 page procedure. This SWMS covers general aspects of window installation in residential buildings. This does not cover work from heights (above 2m). A dedicated SWMS must be developed for window installation above 2m.

The Window Installation procedure is ready to use and is not a blank template. Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand. It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall OHS System.

The Window Installation Work Method Statement can be used as part of your OHS inductions, for Tool box talks or tender applications.

Operation:

Check location of utilities/pipes and cables before drilling into walls. Seek advice from qualified persons as required.

Assess suitable travel pathway to enter house with load.

Check for stairs, stored items, corners or other obstructions that could cause tripping, crushing of fingers, damage to glass or awkward postures when carrying the load.

Use lifting equipment to transport windows to installation site.

If this is not possible, use a team lift. Team lifts must be coordinated and practiced. Ensure adequate communication and continue to check for obstacles during transport.

Always carry vertically and avoid twisting panels.

Note: Consider bars with suction cups parallel to each other for carrying. Ensure good suction before moving. Recheck suction after 20 minutes (if still required).

Wear grip gloves when transporting panels. Take care to avoid knocking glass panels into obstacles, especially the corners of the panels as these can break more readily.

Do not:

  • Lay glass panels on a hard surface, use towels or other soft materials.
  • Lay glass panels horizontally on the floor/ground.
  • Store glass panels in walkways or other areas where they could be knocked over.
  • Work above, directly above other persons.
