Work Undertaken in Private Residences Information:

The Work Undertaken in Private Residences Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive 12 page procedure.

This SWMS is intended as guidance for employees required to go to a private residence to undertake work (such as locksmiths, maintenance workers etc). No employee should be sent to a site without communication devices (mobile phone with service for the area, and if possible, GPS devices).

The Work Undertaken in Private Residences Work Method Statement (WMS) is ready to use and is not a blank template. Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand. It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall OHS System.

The Work Undertaken in Private Residences Work Method Statement can be used as part of your OHS inductions, for Tool box talks or tender applications.

Planning:

The following equipment is recommended:

  • GPS locator on employee vehicles
  • Mobile phone (with service in work area, pre-programmed with emergency numbers)

Develop and implement communication protocol:

  • Mobile phones to be kept on employee at all times
  • Mobile phones to be kept switched on
  • Employees call supervisor upon arrival and departure and regular call-ins are made
  • Supervisor must have address details, expected arrival/departure and visit duration times.
  • Supervisors have details of employee's vehicle (registration, colour make, model).
  • Employees to attend only the site directed by Supervisor.
  • Code words should be established to indicate employee is in threatening situation.
  • Emergency procedures in place if call-ins not followed, or communication lost with employee

Note: Call-in times must be agreed with employee and supervisor and based on the risk level expected at the site.

Identify aggression/risk of violence where possible. Include:

  • Client history and personal circumstance

Provide adequate resources to allow workers to get to residence at the agreed time (the time the client is expecting them).
