Heat Stress Safe Work Method Statement:
The Heat Stress Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive procedure outlining the safety steps for Working in the Heat.
The Heat Stress procedure is ready to use and is not a blank template. Simply add your company details including your ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand.
It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall OHS System. The Heat Stress procedure can be used as part of your OHS inductions, for Tool box talks or tender applications.
Employees can suffer illness from working in excessively hot environments (such as foundries, iron works etc). Heat is not based on air temperature alone, heat sources can come from high temperatures, radiant heat, high humidity, hot objects, or strenuous physical activity.
Heat stress illness can include:
- fainting
- heat stroke
- fatigue/exhaustion
- rashes (such as prickly heat) or heat cramps
- worsening of pre-existing medical conditions
