Preparation

Assess intended work site. Check:

  • Confined Space (Note: Do not undertake Hot Works in confined spaces unless Confined Space Entry Permit and SWMS is followed)
  • Ventilation requirements (indoor or outdoor). Provide mechanical ventilation if required.
  • Ensure not within 15m of:
    • Grass/vegetation/timber and other combustibles (if not practicable, grass can be wetted sufficiently).
    • Flammables storages
    • Gas maintenance access points
  • Storm water drains. Rivers or sensitive environmental areas. Pressure vessels and tanks (including pipelines, flanges, vents and valves)

Hot Works Safety Information:

The Hot Works Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive 8 page procedure outlining the safety steps for Hot Works undertaken either indoors or outdoors. It does not include work being carried out in confined spaces or on bulk tanks/vessels that contain/ed flammable materials or other dangerous goods.

The Hot Works procedure is ready to use and is not a blank template. Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand. It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall OHS System.

The Hot Works Work Method Statement can be used as part of your OHS inductions, for Tool box talks or tender applications.
