Tying Rebar Safe Work Method Statement:

The Tying Rebar Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive procedure outlining the safety steps for rebar tying from ground level. The Rebar Tying procedure is ready to use and is not a blank template.

Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand.

It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall OHS System. The Tying Rebar procedure can be used as part of your OHS inductions, for Tool box talks or tender applications.

Preparation for Tying Rebar:

Ensure:

  1. all protruding rebars are capped
  2. correct rebar-cap for the size of the bar
  3. rebar-caps fitted in accordance with the supplier's instructions
  4. condition of the rebar-caps checked regularly for deterioration/damage
  5. regular checks that the rebar-caps are still in place and correctly fitted

Tying Rebar Risk Assessment Notes

Assess intended work site. Ensure:

  • adequate lighting
  • suitable weather conditions
  • traffic management controls are in place where required
  • location is not in close proximity to other hazardous works (hot works, excavating, work undertaken overhead etc)
  • location of work is not directly above/adjacent to exposed rebar (even when capped) where persons could be impaled
  • fall risks are mitigated (barriers etc).
