This Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive document outlining the safety steps, main hazards, risks and controls for Locking out and Tagging of plant and machinery to prevent plant and its components from activating (including release of stored energy) during inspection, maintenance, repair or cleaning. It also includes information for tagging plant that are in an unsafe condition.
Without procedures in place to ensure power is isolated to plant, persons can be killed or seriously injured from its accidental start-up.
Remember: The content of the SWMS should be refined over time and include consultation with workers and other persons conducting a business or undertaking. Prior to each new activity, the SWMS must be reviewed and revised to ensure it applies to the high risk construction work and the actual site you are working at.
