The Contact with Utilities Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive document outlining the safety steps, main hazards, risks and controls for general emergency procedures in the event of plant/machinery contacting overhead power-lines or underground utilities.
All precautions must be taken to ensure that contact with utilities will not occur. Work must not be undertaken within No Go Zones of power-lines. Do not store, stack or keep machinery or equipment under power-lines. Always contact Dial before you Dig.
Remember: The content of the SWMS should be refined over time and include consultation with workers and other persons conducting a business or undertaking. Prior to each new activity, the SWMS must be reviewed and revised to ensure it applies to the high risk construction work and the actual site you are working at.
