The Wind Turbine Installation Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive document outlining the safety steps for the assembly, installation and erection of a 10kW Wind Turbine.
This SWMS does not cover operating and maintenance of 10kW Wind Turbines.
This SWMS does not cover operating mobile plant, and some technical aspects of designing and building cement footings in sufficient detail. Dedicated SWMS should be developed for these tasks, and for any risks not covered in this SWMS.

This SWMS is ready to use and is not a blank template. Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand. It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall WHS System.
Fitting the Blades:
Before installing the blades ensure that the blade hub covers are installed on the turbine
Take care to fit the blades in the correct orientation -
It may be possible to fit the blades in the opposite direction and this could lead to dangerous situations occurring therefore installers should check carefully before bringing the bolts to full torque.
The blades may be bolted onto any position of the three blade hubs and it is essential to support
the blades weight whilst they are being installed.
After all three blades have been fitted and bolts torqued wait 30mins before re-checking torque
Always use the correct hand tools for the job when assembling the Nacelle.
Ensure workers use safe manual handling techniques and avoid:
- Working for long periods without adequate breaks
- Over reaching and over stretching
- Sustained awkward positions
- Manually lifting items that require mechanical lifting aids
