Job Safety Analysis (JSA)

Undertaking a JSA enables those involved in the work task / activity to identify hazards that may be present and establish safety control measures (preventative measures) to precent harm to life, health, property or the environment. 

A JSA Worksheet assists in assessing the risks of doing a job. A Job Safety Analysis should be completed upon arrival on site with the purpose of identifying site-specific hazards prevent on the day.

Basic steps to follow when completing your JSA:

  • List the job steps that are involved in the activity
  • Identify any potential hazards in each job step and write these down next to each task
  • Determine the risk level for each hazard using the Risk Assessment Matrix
  • Document control measures by pinpointing solutions that either eliminate or minimise the risk of injury for each hazard identified
  • Monitor and re-assess

Don't forget

  • To include all employees involved in the activity when completing the JSA
  • Train all persons involved in the activity to ensure they are aware of the hazards
