Respirable Crystalline Silica Policy

Crystalline silica (quartz) is a common mineral that can be found in materials and products such as shale, sandstone, concrete, bricks, pavers and manufactured stone. e.g. stone benchtops.

A health hazard is created when workers cut, crush, drill, polish, saw or grind products that generate dust containing silica. During these processes, very fine particles of crystalline silica can be inhaled and deposited within the lungs. These dust particles can be so small (less than 7 microns) that they are not visible. When these dust particles become so small, they are commonly referred to as respirable particles and can cause illness or disease including silicosis, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, lung cancer and kidney damage.

The Respirable Crystalline Silica Policy contains a policy and procedure to document an organisation’s aim to protect the safety of its workers by implementing risk management strategies in regards to working with Respirable Crystalline Silica.

The Policy can be used as a stand-alone document or incorporated into your existing OHS Management System.

Inorganic lead (lead) is a toxic heavy metal and it is found in many different products including paints, glass, solder, plastic and rubber compounds. Lead is an accumulative poison. The body can excrete lead however, when more lead is absorbed than the body excretes, the amount of lead in the body is increased.

The Lead (Working With) Policy is a document that contains a policy and procedure to document an organisation’s aim to protect the safety of its workers by implementing risk management strategies in regards to working with lead.

The Policy can be used as a stand-alone document or incorporated into your existing OHS Management System.
