The Catering Equipment Repairs - Commercial Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive procedure outlining the safety steps for the repair of commercial catering equipment.

The Catering Equipment - Repairs Work Method Statement (WMS) is ready to use and is not a blank template. Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand. It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall WHS System.

This SWMS covers general hazards associated with repair, service and maintenance of commercial grade catering equipment (such as ovens/dishwashers etc) at the catering premises on ground level. Electrical works must not be conducted on live electrical installations unless deemed necessary. Ensure all persons have appropriate licenses for prescribed works (gas or electric) as relevant

  -  Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) from hazardous manual tasks

  -  Slips, trips

 A dedicated SWMS must be developed for hazards not covered in this SWMS involving high-risk work (such as asbestos removal, work at heights, or works on live electrical installations).

Operation: (extract only)


Wear PPE and food handling/hygiene nets/booties etc as required.

Install barriers and caution signs in work area.

Liaise with relevant catering staff about the task and duration of time required to complete works – including any power isolations required that may affect other equipment)

Allow equipment to shut down / cool before commencing work.

Shut down plant as per manufacturer’s instructions.

Identify any sources likely to be reactive (check diagram / written instructions). Examples:

  • Pressure release (fluid, steam etc)

  • Associated / joined equipment / pipelines etc

Note: If plant is used for controlling other hazards (such as extractor fans) cease work that gives rise to hazards, and /or provide other means of control as needed.
