The Refrigeration - Installation Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive procedure outlining the safety steps for the installation and maintenance of refrigerant systems.
The Refrigeration - Installation Work Method Statement (WMS) is ready to use and is not a blank template. Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand. It is then ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall WHS System.
This SWMS involves the installation and maintenance of self-contained, low charged refrigerant systems. This SWMS does not cover maintenance of high-pressure systems or use of anhydrous ammonia refrigerant in bulk. This does not cover working at heights or working on live electrical installations in sufficient detail. Dedicated SWMS should be developed for these tasks, and for any risks not covered in this SWMS.
Hazards may include electric shock, falls from heights, exposure to high pressure, exposure to liquefied gases (temperature extremes) and potential for musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) from hazardous manual tasks. Accidental release of refrigerant gas can displace oxygen in low-ventilated areas and decompose in the presence of flames (such as hot works) to create toxic atmospheric contaminants. Environmental risks may include venting of fluorocarbon refrigerant into the atmosphere.
